It may sound a bit cliche but when I was 13 and worked at a bakery (a very well-known bakery to be exact: Bakkerij Hartog in Amsterdam), the elderly owner, Mr Hartog, gave me the valuable advice not listen to what everyone would tell me but to travel the world instead. He said that this would eventually broaden my horizon more than anything else.
As the man proposed, I travelled the world. During my studies I lived in Vienna, Sydney and even spent a full year in Macau, China. I backpacked and did research all around Asia, the USA, Australia and Europe. Next to these trips, however, I did study and work my ass off. I’m aged 26 now, got my Master’s, two Bachelor Degrees and fulltime work experience in Tourism Marketing for the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the company I worked for was suddenly taken over and my position changed in a way I did not enjoy working there anymore. So, with the voice of Mr Hartog in the back of my mind, I decided to go and explore the world again.
Hence, I packed my backpack and left Amsterdam 2 years ago. It was time for some new adventures! I explored South America for 5 months, from Patagonia to the Galapagos Islands, from climbing vulcanoes to diving with hammerheads and attending an Ayahuasca ceremony. In Peru I met the love of my life who then took me to Marrakech, Santorini and on a roadtrip through South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. We lived to Greece for 8 months and recently decided to settle down in Barcelona for the next year!
